CAPM&R Annual Staff-Resident Softball Challenge The CAPM&R Resident-Staff softball challenge was first held in Harrison Hot Springs in 1997. Although attendance at the inaugural game was...not good...it has improved every year since. This event, which was initially started as an alternative for non-golfers (i.e. true athletes), has since grown to the point where we have to accommodate more than 9 players per side on a regular basis. The spectators have also increased in number, drawn by the ever-popular exploding grapefruit trick, which paradoxically gets funnier every year. Since its humble beginnings, and in a relatively short period of time, the game has come to represent all that is good about the CAPM&R meetings and indeed the association itself - friendship, camaraderie, good sportsmanship, exercise and fresh air, and the consumption of large amounts of beer, both during the game itself and afterwards at the local watering hole. Yes, the game is now a staple of the annual meetings, perhaps second in prestige only to the mighty quaich itself. For a list of the previous winners, please read on. I'm sure it is only coincidental, but I should point out that the team which Rick McMillan and I have played on has never lost. Food for thought.
